What is Resection
Resection in surveying refers to a technique used to determine the location of an unknown point by measuring angles to at least two known points from that unknown station. Also known as free stationing, this method allows surveyors to establish the coordinates of a new survey station without occupying a known point.

The process involves calculating the position of the unknown point where lines of sight to known points intersect, using coordinate trigonometry, least-squares algorithm or triangulation for increased accuracy.
A Case study: Resection Error Troubleshooting at DAMAC Lagoons

Recently, one of our key customers was facing an issue with resection, as he was not able to get the unknown station. Generally, this issue would arise either because the instrument constants are out of tolerance (the instrument is not calibrated), bad control point (reference point) geometry or because the surveyor has not followed the correct procedures to conduct the resection.
Our Technical support team from RISE GEO CONTROL SYSTEMS LLC in Dubai, United Arab Emirates instantly went to the site and attended to this issue. Upon examination our tech. team realized that the user had entered the control point coordinates incorrectly. The coordinates for Northing were entered into Easting and vice versa. From this it becomes obvious that the error occurred due to human error.
Further, our tech. team educated the occurrence of this issue and provided a free training session, realizing that the surveyor is relatively new to survey. Subsequently, there has been no issue reported and the project continued smoothly and RISE GEO CONTROL SYSTEMS LLC was appreciated by the project manager and the parent company.
